How do I become a Psychotherapist?

I’m interested in being a Psychotherapist but I’m not sure which classes do I have to take and what are the other requirements. I also hadn’t found a high school or college that has psycology or something as it’s majorNo related posts.

Well, first you need to graduate high school.
Then you can go to a junior college to get your “basic education requirements” completed if you have not yet done so while you were in high school. If you are unsure if you are taking any general education courses already in high school you can talk to your school counselor. But when you end up going to junior college, the counselors pull up your info from high school and tell you what courses you will need anyways.
Most junior colleges offer general psychology courses, to prepare you for a 4 year college. Like I said, the counselors will show you their plan. the one thing you need to do is make sure that the credits you receive at that particular junior college are going to be transferable to the 4 year college that you will eventually want to attend. It sounds complicated, but its really not, the counselors do most of the planning for you, you just have to do the schoolwork!
Once you are done with junior college and you have your AA degree, you can apply to a 4 year college to become a psychotherapist. A lot of people change their major and choose to be a Family and marriage therapist, or get into Child psychology or even Parapsychology. The choice is yours, but that is how to get started! -

To be a psychotherapist requires a minimum of graduate degree in a related field and being licensed in the state of practice. Typically there are three routes, social work, counseling and psychology. There is an alphabet soup of mental health which includes LMSW, LCSW, ACSW, LAC, LPC, LMFT, LPE, Phd, APN, MD, LMHP and LIP. It gets confusing but all the intials can perform psychotherapy, remember that grad school is where its all at.
