Could I become a teacher and a psychotherapist?
1 Commentaimhigh1184 asked:
I am thinking… not decided but thinking about becoming a Biology teacher in a NYC or private school. Is it possible to also go back to school part time after I become a high school teacher to get my MA in Mental Health Counseling from NYU and then get a Psychotherapy degree and become a Psychotherapist part time(preferably after working hours)? I am really committed to helping people and living a very fulfilling life while having a loving family. Please give me any suggestions or advice. Thanks. No related posts.

There always seems to be a demand for science and math teachers. So, I would think that your first option is to become a biology teacher. I take it you also plan to become a Psychotherapist with a Ph. D in Psychotherapy; attaining a Ph.D. in Psychotherapy is a ton of hard, dedicated work. Ph.D.s really require intense focus on the curriculum that has to be completed.
At NYU, go talk to a Psychotherapist instructor or even staff at the Psychology Department in order to really understand what will be expected of you. I will let you know up front, since I teach in public schools that teachers can be very busy; there is an unbelievable amount of paperwork!
By the way, it is great that you will help those in need; it seems like there are less and less individuals that still care for more then theirselves. Good luck.
