Can a psychotherapist with a PhD prescribe medication?
3 Commentsgoodwitch asked:
I will be seeing a psychotherapist for serious depression issues. I have been trying to deal with them on my own for many years and have made a disaster of my life. Therapy will help but I think i need more.No related posts.

they cannot prescribe you anything, but they are probably working with a psychiatrist who can.

Only an MD or a social worker (in certain situations) can prescribe drugs. A psychotherapist is there for talk, if you want drugs you need to go to a psychiatrist.

No. You would need to go to a Psychiatrist to have medication prescribed to you. The psychotherapist can give tell you what class of drugs people have used for depression, but they cannot legally give you any of them.
